Doris Maud Latty -

Doris Latty (née Ricketts) was born on October 3, 1929, in the Desire District of Frankfield, Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. She was the beloved daughter of Hurbert and Mabel Ricketts and was educated at the Frankfield School system. After a lengthy illness, Doris transitioned peacefully on the afternoon of January 25, 2026, in Brooklyn, New York.

Doris was united in marriage to Randolph Latty, and together they built a loving family. She was a devoted mother to six children and a caring stepmother to two elder step-daughters. Looking after her family was Doris’s greatest pride and joy, and it was this devotion that led her to migrate to Philadelphia, PA in 1969 in pursuit of better opportunities for her family.

As a hardworking and determined woman, Doris worked tirelessly as a housekeeper and home health aide. She also dedicated many years of service as a Nurse’s Aide and a Therapy Aide at the Staten Island Psychiatric Center and the Brooklyn Development Center. Through her perseverance and selflessness, Doris was able to file for her husband and dependent children to join her in the United States within a year of migrating. The family settled in Brooklyn, New York, which became their cherished home.

Doris found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. She never missed a graduation or any significant milestone in their lives. As a devout Methodist, Doris attended church services regularly and lived her life guided by faith.

In her personal time, Doris enjoyed sewing, staying active, and caring for her health. She loved exercising and taking long walks through neighborhood parks, a practice she maintained well into her 80s. Though she made her home in the United States, Doris never forgot her roots. She remained deeply connected to Jamaica and faithfully sent barrels home each year, filled with supplies for family members.

Doris will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to family, her strong work ethic, her faith, and her generous spirit. Her legacy of love and sacrifice lives on in all those she touched.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Randolph Latty, parents, Hubert and Mabel Ricketts, sisters, Carmen Chambers, Linnette Fearon, May Richards, Lilla Brown, Brothers George Ricketts, Charles Ricketts, Wesley Ricketts, Oscar Ricketts and step-daughter Phyllis Latty.
